For anyone with a dry skin type, you know how difficult it is to keep your skin feeling perfectly moisturized. If you have naturally dry skin, that nice, hydrated feeling lasts for 15 minutes and then it’s right to the Sahara Desert. BUT there’s still hope! Today we’re going to go over a few hacks that will help you hydrate and moisturize dry skin.
Even for people with a dry skin type, there are a few easy steps we can take to make our skin more moisture-retaining, plump and beautifully hydrated!
Before we get to our tips, there’s a quick distinction to make – there’s a difference between moisturization and hydration. It’s simple, if your skin is dehydrated that means it’s lacking water, meaning hydrating it is adding water to it. Whereas moisturizing refers to adding ingredients to your skin that help it lock the moisture in and properly retain it. So hydrating is great! It’ll help your skin feel nice and fresh and plump, but it’s temporary. What we should really be aiming for is moisturization, we want to soak in the hydration, and keep our skin’s moisture barriers strong so that we can hold onto that hydration!
Cannot stress this enough; we all need to make sure we’re drinking at least 8 glasses of water per day. There are a million health reasons why, but also it helps to keep your skin properly hydrated! *If you’re reading this, here’s your daily reminder to go and refill your water bottle.
Cleansing is such an important part of a good skincare routine; however, it can also strip us of some of the essential oils we need to keep our skin looking and feeling its best! So, to combat this, it’s essential to use a good moisturizer to replenish those nutrients we need to have that glowing complexion. *Our Forever Youth Moisture Cream is an excellent choice, if we do say so ourselves
Once again; long, hot showers have their own benefits but they also strip your skin of some essential oils. That’s why you’ll find your skin often feels dry and tight afterwards. Keep it to a lukewarm or even cool temperature, and if you want to have a hot shower make it a quick one!
A humidifier is a great tool for making sure the air around you has the proper moisture content. Which then in turn keeps your skin from going dry! This is especially helpful during the cold, dry winter months. Unfortunately, we know a thing or two about that here in Toronto.
If you can work a face mask with strong hydrating properties (hyaluronic acid, ceramides, glycerin etc.) into your daily skincare routine, it can work wonders for keeping your skin plump, moisturized and radiant! *Once again, may we suggest our soothing 6xHA Moisture Mask (600% hyaluronate).
We’re confident that if you follow these simple hacks your skin will have a long-lasting, beautifully hydrated look and feel – even if you have a naturally drier skin type!
